Matthew Weiner Chief Executive




Matthew was appointed as Chief Executive in 2015, after previously serving on the Board of Development Securities PLC as a Director since 2004. Whilst at Development Securities, Matthew has spearheaded the Company’s acquisition activities, completing transactions with a GDV of well over £3bn.

Prior to joining Development Securities, Matthew worked as a Fund Manager at both Legal & General and AXA Investment Management looking after segregated Fund management mandates across all property sectors.

Richard Upton Deputy Chief Executive




Richard was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the specialist regeneration property developer Cathedral Group, which was acquired by Development Securities PLC in May 2014. Richard was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive of U+I in July 2015, having previously been appointed to the Board in May 2014.

He was previously a founding Director of Mount Anvil, a leading London house builder and is a member of the London Advisory Committee for Historic England.

Marcus Shepherd Chief Financial Officer




Marcus is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. His previous roles include Finance Director at Development Securities PLC, Finance Director (Global Real Estate) at Aviva Investors, Chief Financial Officer (Europe) for Valad Property Group and Group Finance Director of Teesland PLC.

Non-Executive Directors
Peter Williams Non-executive Chairman




A chartered accountant by training, Peter Williams is the former CEO of Selfridges. He has over 30 years’ of board-level experience and has held a number of executive and non-executive positions at a wide range of public and private consumer-facing businesses. 

He was appointed a Non-executive Director for U+I in 2016, becoming Chairman following the 2016 Annual General Meeting. Alongside this role, Peter is currently Chairman at boohoo.com plc, a Senior Independent Director at Rightmove plc and at Sportech plc and a trustee of the Design Council.

Nick Thomlinson Independent Non-executive Director, Senior Independent Director




Nick is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He is a former senior partner and Chairman of the Knight Frank Group. Nick was appointed Senior Independent Director of the Company following the 2016 Annual General Meeting.

Barry Bennett Non-executive Director




Barry is a chartered accountant with significant experience in the financial and property sectors and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. Barry was previously a founding Director of Mount Anvil, a London house builder and in 2002 founded specialist regeneration real estate developer, Cathedral Group with Richard Upton.

Lynn Krige Independent Non-executive Director




Lynn is currently Chief Financial Officer at British Engineering Services Limited and brings over 25 years’ experience from across the construction, infrastructure, investment and B2B services sectors. She has previously held executive roles at Speedy Hire PLC and John Laing PLC, originally qualifying with Deloitte in South Africa.

Lynn is also currently a member of the Audit Committee at The Imperial War Museum.

Executive Committee
Bradley Cassels ExCo Director – Investment

Bradley joined Development Securities, now U+I, in 2004 as a member of the investment team focusing on commercial investment opportunities.

Bradley oversees U+I’s circa £200 million investment portfolio, a significant part of the company’s net asset value. Bradley coordinates sales and acquisitions and the value enhancement strategy for the portfolio and manages the company’s investment in Joint Venture projects.

Simon Hesketh ExCo Director – Regeneration

Simon Hesketh joined Development Securities, now U+I, in 1997. Originally focusing on the company’s major office-led development portfolio, he has been responsible for some of U+I’s largest projects to date including 10 and 12 Hammersmith Grove, Vertium in Dublin and PaddingtonCentral.

Simon now leads the team responsible for the delivery of all of U+I’s regeneration projects, including our over-station mixed-use scheme for Southwark Tube station and Brunel Place, Slough.

Brenda Bates ExCo Director – Communications and Business Services

Brenda joined U+I in 2016 to lead on communications, investor relations, marketing and HR, playing a key role in U+I’s growing business and brand.

Brenda brings significant and broad senior level experience, most recently from her role as Managing Director of Corporate Communications and Market Intelligence at the World Gold Council. She has also held directorships at AON.

Laurence Martin ExCo Director – Mixed-use

Laurence Martin has been with the company since 2004. He is responsible for U+I’s pipeline of short to medium-term projects and land acquisition opportunities from deal origination to planning, funding and project delivery.

To date, he has delivered over 20 projects with a combined GDV of £1 billion including Cross Quarter in Abbey Wood and 399 Edgware Road.

James Bishop ExCo Director – New Business (PPP)

James Bishop joined Cathedral Group, now U+I, in 2004 and is responsible for securing U+I’s pipeline of Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects and land opportunities.

James has played a key role in securing a number of U+I’s mixed-use projects including The Deptford Project, St Mark’s Square in Bromley, The Movement in Greenwich, Cockpit Yard in Holborn and Mayfield in Manchester, helping to build a pipeline of PPP projects with a value of over £2bn.

Mark Richardson ExCo Director - Delivery

Mark Richardson joined U+I in September 2016 to oversee the senior strategic leadership around the delivery of U+I’s regeneration portfolio.

Previously Pre-Construction Director at Laing O’Rourke, Mark has worked on some of the capital’s most recognizable projects, including One Hyde Park, The Francis Crick Institute and Leadenhall, all delivered while continuing to develop and nurture new business for the entire UK business.
